📋 Trip Defaults
Set from the official SARS rate per km. Used for inline cost estimates in the trip list.
When a Business trip has no purpose from location defaults or trip history, this text is used automatically. Must be specific enough for SARS compliance.

🔵 Bluetooth Car DetectionLearn more →
Bluetooth auto-start
Prompt to start when your car Bluetooth connects
Setup — choose your method:
Method 1 — Car Bluetooth
1. Connect your phone to your car Bluetooth
2. Tap "Detect my car" below — the app will scan for paired Bluetooth devices
3. Select your car from the list
iPhone users: skip to the name field below — iOS cannot scan devices.

Method 2 — Bluetooth Dongle (no car Bluetooth needed)
1. Plug a Bluetooth dongle, old headphones, or a small speaker into a USB car charger
2. Leave it in the car — when the car starts, the charger powers the device and your phone auto-connects
3. Follow the same Detect / name steps above to register it
Tip: use a device that stays in the car permanently — one you also use at home may trigger false trips.

DriveLog uses Bluetooth permission to detect your car — no audio or microphone access needed.
Case-insensitive partial match — "Hyundai" will match "HYUNDAI ix35 Hands-Free".
DriveLog runs a background service to detect your car even when the app is closed. If detection stops working after closing the app, check your phone’s battery settings:
Samsung (One UI): Settings → Apps → DriveLog → Battery → Unrestricted. Also check Settings → Battery → Background usage limits → remove DriveLog from Sleeping and Deep sleeping apps.
Other Android: Settings → Apps → DriveLog → Battery → Don’t optimise (or Unrestricted).
Without this, your phone may kill DriveLog’s background service to save battery.

Motion Detection
Uses your phone's motion sensors to detect when you start driving. Works even without Bluetooth — great as a backup or if your car doesn't have Bluetooth. Android only.
⚠ Requires the DriveLog Android or iOS app — not available in the browser version.
Auto-start on driving
Detect vehicle motion and start tracking automatically
Speed confirmation: waits for sustained speed above your start threshold before starting a trip. Trips auto-stop after 2 minutes of no movement.
Not working when app is closed? Some phones (especially Samsung) aggressively kill background services. Go to Settings → Apps → DriveLog → Battery → set to Unrestricted. On Samsung, also remove DriveLog from Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps under Battery → Background usage limits.

📋 What Can I Claim?
A plain-English guide to SARS-compliant business travel. Tap a section to expand it.
✅ You CAN claim these trips
+
• Office to a client meeting and back
• Home directly to a client (home is your workplace that day — not via office)
• Travelling between clients or branches
• Airport trips for business travel
• Trips to your accountant, bank, or SARS for business
• Training courses and conferences
❌ You CANNOT claim these trips
+
• Home to your normal office (daily commute — SARS never allows this)
• Office to get lunch and back (personal)
• Personal errands during work hours (gym, shops, school pickup)
• Any personal detour added to a business trip
⚠️ Tricky split trips
+
• Client → lunch → office: Only claim the direct client-to-office distance, not the detour
• Business trip + personal stop (e.g. petrol + shops): Claim only the direct business route km
• Multiple client visits in one trip: Fully claimable as one business trip
• Working from home, then drive to client: Claimable — home is your workplace that day
📋 Key rules
+
• SARS requires date, start/end location, distance, and purpose for every trip
• "Home to normal workplace" is NEVER business — no exceptions
• Keep it conservative — SARS can audit 5 years back
• DriveLog records everything automatically — just classify correctly
